Indigenous & Housing Project:
MOPGEL believes that working with the indigenous people who are involved with traditional practices is one of the best ways that can lead to achieving gender equality around the World, primarily our focus area the West Africa region where negative traditional practices are yet to be transformed.
We believe traditional and other practices that indigenous people are involved with in West Africa could be transformed if MOPGEL and partners developed programs that will provide affordable housing for indigenous and working poor.
Every country in the world has indigenous people. Indigenous people are inheritors and practitioners with unique cultures and ways of relating to people and the environment. They have retained social, cultural, economic and political characteristics that are distinct from those of the dominant societies in which they live. Despite their cultural differences, indigenous peoples from around the world share common problems related to the protection of their rights as distinct peoples.
Indigenous peoples have sought recognition of their identities, way of life and their right to traditional lands, territories and natural resources for years, yet throughout history; their rights have always been violated. Education, Housing, Agricultural rights are among rights been violated.
